In Kostroma, there are 535 monuments of architecture and history, 27 monuments of archeology of different ages, 6 monuments statues which are put under state preservation. Some mansions which used to belong to the famous Kostroma noble families, are still preserved and can be found at Tchaikovsky street. Almost every house there has its own rich history. The street is followed by Sovetskaya square. The houses which had been built there were used for administrative purposes. The local Duma and the Magistrature with Governorate public offices make up the ensemble of administrative buildings. The central square of Kostroma, Sovetskaya square, almost merges with Susaninskaya square. They are separated from each other by the shopping arcade and Governorate public offices.
