The lodge sits on the site of a trading post built in 1896, and its located on the Navajo Reservation in northeastern Arizona. Conveniently located between El Tovar and Bright Angel Lodge, Thunderbird is a contemporary lodge. Located on the Canyon rim, half of the rooms at the Thunderbird Lodges have partial canyon views. All of the rooms are ideally suited for families. Rooms have two queen beds or one king bed, in-room coffee, refrigerator, safe, television, telephone, and full bath. Rooms designed for guests with physical disabilities are available. This lodge offers easy walking access to the dining facilities at either El Tovar or Bright Angel Lodge. Guests staying at the Thunderbird Lodge check in at Bright Angel Lodge. Please note rooms with Canyon views cannot be guaranteed. All rooms are non-smoking rooms. Its cafeteria style restaurant is located in the trading posts original building. The all-day cafeteria serves Native American dishes as well as continental cuisine. Adorning the walls of the dining room are excellent examples of Navajo rugs and artwork available for purchase. In the center of the dining area is a vault like room that at one time served as a jail for the trading post. Rooms are decorated with Native American furnishings and fixtures. 10 kms to city centre, 100 kms to the nearest airport (gallup).
