The Waggon Horses is a family owned country pub hotel restaurant in North Essex close to the Suffolk county border half way between Colchester and Cambridge near to Halstead, Braintree, Sudbury and Haverhill. A good stopping off place for Stansted Airport, Constable Country and Hedingham Castle. Colchester, Britain's oldest recorded town, is only 20 miles away and the University City of Cambridge only 30 miles. The Norman Keep built in 1140 at Castle Hedingham is only 2 miles away. The Waggon Horses is a handsome XVIth century inn standing on the main road at Great Yeldham close to the Essex/Suffolk border. We are a freehouse featured in the CAMRA Best Beer Guide. The restaurant is open every day from 12-2 pm and 7-9pm; all day on Sundays. Prices are very reasonable and there are a variety of bar snacks available. The host is Mike Shiffner who claims to be the best looking landlord in North Essex. Hotel Rating: Self Assessed 2 star
