The George & dragon has a little of something for all. The two charming guest bedrooms are available all year round with a full Yorkshire breakfast hot baked morning scones real coffee & teas served in their own private parlour. The George & Dragon offers real food cooked fresh & imaginatively daily from our special menu. Plate pies to fresh seafood & of course the pudding board with all the old favourites beautifully prepared. Ales are locally brewed. The wine list is an eclectic mix of old school & new origin sourced & carefully chosen by people who love great food and wine. Barnard Castle is a historic thriving market town which developed in the protective shadow of Bernard Balliol's castle. Built on a fine defensive site in 1125 the castle is in the care of English Heritage and is open to the public. In the town centre the octagonal Market cross or Butter Market served a number of purposes dairy produce was sold here and it was also the town's lock up Town Hall and Court House.
