1. The Gateway Hotel Gir Forest is located on the edge of the world - renowned Gir Forest - the only home to the Asiatic Lion. Surrounded by rich jungles, the hotel faces the Hiran River and offers the perfect setting in a secluded corner, far from the bustle of the city. 2. The Gir National Park and Sanctuary covers 1400 sq km of dry deciduous forest and tropical thorn forest. There are 2,375 distinct fauna species in Gir including about 38 species of mammals, around 300 species of birds, 37 species of reptiles and more than 2,000 species of insects. The carnivores group include Asiatic lions, Indian Leopards, Sloth bears, Jungle cats, Striped Hyenas and Golden Jackals. The main herbivores of Gir are Chital, Nilgai, Sambar, Four-horned Antelope, Chinkara and Wild boar. It also has the highest population in India of the mugger, Marsh crocodile. 3.
