Painswick is an historic town known as 'The Queen of the Cotswolds'. It is surrounded by delightful countryside and National Trust woodlands with 140 designated footpaths for walkers. Painswick Beacon has magnificent views and an 18-hole golf course. The Slad valley is well noted for its wild life and flowers. In the early spring the Rococco Gardens are breathtakingly carpeted with snowdrops. The Cotswold Way path goes through the village, which marks its midway point. Painswick is also a central location for day trips to Cheltenham, Gloucester, Bath, Stratford-upon-Avon, Bourton on the Water, Moreton in Marsh, Bristol and London. Family-run restaurant, St. Michael's, has a seasonally changing menu of English food cooked using French techniques. There is a wide selection of wine also available.
