Youghal is a colorful seaside town, which offers excellent shopping and leisure facilities. Situated at the mouth of the River Blackwater, it has long associations with sea and salt. Sir Walter Raleigh lived at Myrtle Grove in Youghal where he grew the first potatoes, having brought them back from the New World. The town walls dating from the 15th century are among the best preserved in Ireland. Youghal has been designated a Heritage town as it boasts some fine medieval buildings, which lend to its attraction as one of Ireland's most popular resorts. The Quality Hotel and Leisure Centre Youghal offers its guests rooms with sea views. The hotel restaurant is on the beachfront, where you can enjoy a variety of dishes. The bar provides lively seasonal entertainment in its idyllic situation. Leisure facilities at the hotel include: outdoor football pitch, outdoor tennis court, and two children's game rooms. Club Vitae Leisure Centre includes a indoor heated swimming pool, sauna, gym, steam room, spa pool and children's pool. Youghal has a lot to offer: the City Walls, Clock Gate, Myrtle Grove, Perks Family Entertainment, Fox's Lane Folk Museum, Jack O'Patsy Pottery Shop, and the Visitor's Centre. Various summer festivals take place each year: Carlsbery Music Festival in June, the Maritime Festival in July and "Youghal Through The Ages" in September. There is also greyhound racing every Friday and Tuesday nights and the golf course overlooking Youghal Bay. Further afield, why not take a trip to Cork and its attractions: Fota Wildlife Park, House and Botanical Gardens, The Titanic Exhibition in Cobh, Stephen Pearse Pottery Factory Shop, the world famous Ballymaloe Cookery School in Shanagarry, Old Middleton Distillery (Irish Whiskey making) in Middleton. If you enjoy mountain views, take a trip to the Knockmealdown, Comeragh or Moanvullagh Mountains that offer superb view points.
