Within a short drive of Castelo Branco, the Pousada das Amoras is a charming hotel in Proenca-a-Nova, located in Portugal's Beiras region. There are some sites of historical interest in and around the town, such as a 16th century church and a Roman bridge near S. Pedro do Esteval. There are also a number of riverside beaches that are suitable for bathing around Aldeia Ruiva, Froia and Malhadal, as well as many interesting attractions within driving distance, such as the Parque Natural de Serra de Estrela and Parque Natural de Serra de Sao Mamede, both wonderful parks in the mountains. The 4-star Hotel Pousada de Proenca-a-Nova is located on the Baptista Diniz family's former estate, and the Pousada has incorporated the family mansion house which was built in 1905. Ideal for a relaxing vacation in the Portuguese countryside, the area is famed for its pine trees which provide welcome shade during the sizzling summers. Furthermore, the Pousada das Amoras in Proenca-a-Nova is named after the many blackberry (amoras) bushes which once populated the estate.
