This 4-star Hotel features a total of 5 single rooms, 18 double rooms and 3 hotel apartments directly adjacent to main house and garden as well as a 105m² luxury-penthouse for up to 6 Persons spanning the entire top floor. The typical “Jugendstil” villa erected in 1913 underwent complete interior and exterior restoration in the years 2009-2010. The hotel is ideally situated a mere 50 metres from the Baltic Sea’s sandy beach with large town forest starting 30 metres behind. It’s about 900 metres walking distance in either direction towards Kuhlungsborn East and West. The nearest train station is approx. 1.5 km away in Kuhlungsborn East, the A20 Baltic autobahn lies 20 km inland. Rostock’s port lies 35 km and its airport 60 km to the east and Lubeck-Blankensee international airport 90 km to the west. The hotel’s international specialty restaurant „Steak-Bistro Bulow“ enjoys an excellent reputation throughout the region. Indeed, many become regular guests at the hotel after first being guests in the restaurant. Our fine cuisine and select beverages are also served on large terrace in front of the house, spacious sunny garden and in a typical white wooden pavillion in turn-of-the-century German maritime architecture, the “Grillarium” which also boasts a big central fireplace. Polar-Stern Hotel is one of the best-known purveyors of Scots single malt whisky in the region with 50 varieties always in stock. Whisky-seminars are held several times a year and are exceedingly popular way beyond the region itself. Smoking is prohibited by law in all rooms public and private with the exception of wood-panelled cosy clubroom and smoker’s lounge. Generous breakfast buffet, private parking, a large bottle of mineral water and wireless internet are included in room rates. The hotel is also an international meeting-point of culture and the arts, with original artwork left by grateful artist-in-residence friends decorating halls and guest rooms. The general atmosphere may described as cosmopolitan hospitality mixed with “Gemutlichkeit” on an international plain. Competent staff, most of whom have been with the hotel for many years, are well practised in friendly, attentive and discreet service.
