One of the many historical hotels in Newport, the La Farge Perry House is notable for its previous occupants. The hotel was the former home of American artist John La Farge, his wife Margaret Perry La Farge, the niece of Commodore Matthew Perry. History buffs won’t want to miss the chance to explore the vicinity of the hotel, which includes several museums such as the Newport Yachting Museum, the Newport History Museum and the Newport Art Museum. The La Farge Perry House is located near downtown Newark which is roughly 35 miles from Providence International Airport. There is taxi service from the airport. Guests can also make use of public transportation, such as the city's bus system or rent a car to get around during their stay in the area. The La Farge Perry House features unique rooms with mahogany furniture and handmade bed linens. Some rooms have views of Newport and the Newport Bridge. Some rooms have fireplaces. Rooms are equipped with TVs and VCRs. The La Farge Perry House was originally built in 1860. It has been updated with new marble bathrooms that in some cases have Jacuzzi tubs. Guests receive free homemade gourmet breakfasts. In the afternoon petit fours are served with cookies, tea and lemonade.
