Kaka Retreat is an accommodation complex set in Stewart Island’s idyllic Halfmoon Bay where the emphasis is on enjoying the environment and sustaining it. This seven-year-old complex consists of a selection of 2/3 bedroom bungalow units and superior studio suites, grouped for privacy as well as appreciation of the surrounding beauty. Situated just a three-minute walk from the wharf of this picturesque township that forms the gateway to Rakiura National park, Kaka Retreat has a present capacity for up to 22 people. The Island is famed for its birdlife, and here the usually elusive wild Kaka, the forest cousins of New Zealand’s famous mountain parrot, put on daily displays.
