Of hotels in Taormina, some are actually located below the city, in the Bay of Mazzaro. Such is the case with the Ipanema Hotel. However, the funicular is close by. Taormina features ancient ruins, in particular the Greek theater, ancient churches and buildings, and guests can shop and visit restaurants. The A18 motorway connects Messina in the north to Catania in the south, with Taormina in between, for those guests driving to the Ipanema Hotel. The airport, the Fontanarossa, is in Catania, an hour’s drive away. Taormina is on the Messina-Catania line, with trains servicing both areas on a regular basis, as well. There are 55 rooms in the Ipanema Hotel. Each room has a balcony or terrace. The bathrooms are private, and will have either a shower, a tub or both. All rooms have satellite television, a clock radio, a direct-dial phone, a minibar and an most have in-room safe, other safe deposit boxes are available at reception.
