The Hotel U Schnellu is a reasonably priced hotel near Prague Castle within walking distance of the sights of the Mala Strana (Lesser Town) district and the Charles Bridge (called Karluv most in Czech). This central Prague hotel has a history going back to the 1700s, and it was remodeled into its current classical style in 1811. For decades the building was the home of the Old Prague Restaurant, which was frequented by Czech actors, actresses, novelists, composers, and songwriters in the early 1900s. Today it’s a small family hotel with 13 double rooms and 1 family suite. The quaint hotel restaurant serves local dishes such as potato soup, beef goulash, and roasted duck as well as international favourites like hamburgers, grilled salmon, and Greek salad. The Hotel U Schnellu is located near the intersection of 2 major streets, Letenska and Tomasska, in the Castle District (Hradcany) of Prague. To the north and northwest of the hotel are the grounds of Prague Castle (Prazsky Hrad), a huge complex where kings, Holy Roman Emperors, and presidents have had their offices. On the castle environs are the Gothic Saint Vitus’ Cathedral, the country’s largest and most important church; the Convent of Saint George, the home of the Czech National Gallery's collection of 19th-century Bohemian art; 4 individual palaces; towers and royal gardens. Just south of the hotel is the square called Malostranske namesti, the traditional marketplace of the Mala Strana district. One block from the Hotel U Schnellu, you can catch trams (streetcars) at the Malostranske namesti station that will take you all over the city of Prague.
