Make the Hotel Frederiksoord a memorable part of your travels through the province of Drenthe. This historic Netherlands inn has a beautiful, serene location in the country village of Frederiksoord, not far from Drents-Friese Wold National Park. The Hotel Frederiksoord was originally built as a tavern in approx. the year 1770. Since being renovated, it has served as a family-run inn with a spacious garden and a terrace. The staff can assist guests with luggage storage, newspapers, faxing and copying documents, and bicycle rental. Restaurant Frederique is a classy restaurant offering French-inspired cuisine, prepared from locally sourced ingredients such as regional cheeses, venison from the Drenthe forests, and herbs from the hotel’s own herb garden. For less formal fare, visit the modern Brasserie F. The 3-course breakfast is worth the additional charge. The hotel is located on the edge of the village of Frederiksoord, which was founded in 1818 by an organization called the Maatschappij van Weldadigheid (Society of Benevolence). The society bought unused land in the Drenthe region and converted it into farming colonies for families left impoverished by the French occupation. In Frederiksoord you can visit the mansion and horticultural gardens of the Westerbeek Sloot estate, the headquarters of the Society of Benevolence. The history of the farming colonies is explored in the Museum De Koloniehof. From the Hotel Frederiksoord it’s approx. 10.5 km/6.5 miles to Drents-Friese Wold National Park, which has many biking paths, and 20.7 km/12.9 miles to Dwingelderveld National Park.
