The Carris Hotel Casa de la Troya offers comfortable Galicia accommodation in the Old Town, within walking distance of the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, the San Martin Pinario Monastery, and the Royal University of Santiago de Compostela. The Carris Hotel Casa de la Troya is in a traditional building that has been newly renovated to serve as a boutique hotel with 23 guest rooms. The reception desk is open 24 hours a day to meet the needs of guests, by providing currency exchange, luggage storage, laundry service, and fax service. At a nearby computer corner, guests can check their email or go online at any time. The hotel has its own cafeteria, and room service is another dining option. This 3 star hotel has a great location near the Praza do Obradoiro, the heart of the Old Town. Named for the workshop (obradoiro in Spanish) that was established here during the construction of the cathedral, the square is the arrival point for thousands of pilgrims following the Way of St. James (called El Camino de Santiago or just El Camino in Spanish). Standing in this square, you see the baroque front of the cathedral, the reputed burial place of Saint James the Greater (called Santiago in Spanish). On either side of the cathedral are a popular Santiago de Compostela museum, which tells the cathedral’s history, and the Romanesque Gelmirez Palace. To the west is the Rajoy Palace, the current city hall. To the north is the Catholic Kings Hostal, built in 1486 to house pilgrims. To the south is San Jeronimo College, a former students’ residence that now serves as the offices of the University of Santiago de Compostela. Also near the hotel is the baroque San Martin Pinario Monastery.
