Founded circa 1060, the monastery became the mother house of the Order of Saint Benedict for Portugal and Brazil in 1567 and today is famous for the extravagent Rococo decor of its church. The Hospedaria Convento de Tibaes is approx. 8.7 km/5.4 miles from the Braga city centre, where you can visit Braga Cathedral, the cathedral museum, the Biscainhos Museum of the decorative arts, the Nogueira da Silva Museum, and many historic sights.
