The George hotel is situated in the market town of Wallingford, between Oxford and Reading. Sited in the centre of town, it offers convenient access to shops, banks and other amenities. Regular buses run to Oxford, Reading, and other local towns from the Market Square, just a short walk from the hotel and a taxi rank is located there beside the Town Hall. Whilst retaining much of its original character, The George has been sympathetically extended, and now provides every modern facility for the leisure traveller in 39 attractively decorated rooms. A very charming hotel. It is a 16th Century Coaching Inn with attractive wooden beams. The 39 rooms are quite small but very clean and kept in very good condition. The Bathrooms are in good condition. The rooms now provide every modern facility required. There are a number of executive guestrooms available. The elegant Wealh's Restaurant offers a comprehensive seasonal a la carte menu with many traditional English dishes whilst the more relaxed surroundings of The Bistro provide Morning coffees, light lunches, afternoon teas and dinner in the evenings. Alternatively, the ancient beams, log fire and friendly banter lend a warm and welcoming air to the Tavern Bar, the ever popular "Local" where real ales and good beers accompany a range of traditional hot and cold Pub Meals served all day. The lobby is large with leather chairs and sofas. There is a long reception desk and plenty of room with groups with luggage. Decorated in a very elegant style. 10 km to the nearest station (didcot), 160 kms to the airport (birmingham), 5 minute walk to the nearest bus stop, 64 kms to the airport (heathrow).
