Steeped in history Durn House was believed to have been built by Sir James Dunbar of Durn in circ. 1770. Durn House has retained many of its original features with huge open fires superb plasterwork magnificent stone spiral staircase and very large rooms. Durn House has many important historical links including the Battle of Culloden as well as being home to the famous Scottish Astronomer James Ferguson. Durn House house offers a warm welcome where guests are encouraged to relax and simply 'join in'. Guests have access to several relaxation rooms for all tastes whether relaxing by the fire in the magnificent drawing room watching TV or a DVD in the private guest lounge playing pool in the Gentleman's Club' or chating with the owners over a dram where guests can learn about the amazing history and connections that have been discovered about Durn House. Durn House offers a unique opportunity to relax in an intimate country house where you can be assured of warm reception excellent food and a stunning location. Breakfasts and evening meals are prepared fresh each day with home-made and local traditional produce taking centre stage on the menus. Set in its own grounds on a quiet country road by a small stream Durn House is within easy strolling distance of Portsoy Village an historic Scottish Fishing Village with its famous 17th Century harbour and coastal views. Durn House is the ideal location to relax and spend time visiting many local attractions as well as exploring neighbouring favourites including whisky and castle trails local wildlife mountains and superb scenery. The Banffshire Coast is famous for it's Dolphins and they are regularly spotted whilst walking along the coastal paths and at various view points.
