Looking for a good place to stay in the city of Tagier? Dar El Kasbah is a reasonably priced Tangier accommodation located in the historic Medina district, near the Kasbah, or Sultanate Palace. Dar El Kasbah is a historic building, originally constructed in the 1880s by the Eastern Telegraph Company as part of its effort to establish a submarine telegraph cable linking Gibraltar to Tangier. Today it’s an inviting guest house with 14 bedrooms. Guests are invited to sit on the terrace with views of the city or drink mint tea on the patio. Both Moroccan and international dishes are prepared in the restaurant. The guest house is located in Tagier’s Medina quarter, the historic city centre known for its traditional architecture and rich cultural heritage. It is on the Rue de la Kasbah (Street of the Kasbah) which leads north to the Kasbah (fortress), also known as the Sultanate Palace or the Dar-el-Makhzen. This impressive palace now houses the Museum of Moroccan Arts and the Museum of Antiquities. Following the Rue de la Kasbah south takes you to the Grand Socco (Big Square), officially called Place du Grand 9 Avril 1947. In this area are the Sidi Bou Abib Mosque, the Mendoubia Gardens, and the Tangier American Legation Museum (TALM).
