The Country Hotel Velani is a short drive from the traditional Cretan village of Avdou, close to the Lassithi Plateau. A perfect place to enjoy Crete horse riding holidays, this hotel is perched on the slopes of the beautiful Lagada Valley, looking over to the reddish peaks of the Dikti Mountains, where you can watch Griffon Vultures and other majestic birds of prey soar high above. This countryside get-away is located in a vast estate, a real oasis of serenity where you can go hiking, bird watching, mountain climbing, caving, para-gliding and penetrate deep into the Lagada Valley on horse-riding treks. You will also be able to relax on the estate, swimming in the pools and tasting some genuine Cretan cuisine. Built from the local stone, the hotel has a real rustic feel. In the main building, there is a romantic bar with a panoramic balcony, and a restaurant with a large terrace. Last but not least, there is an equestrian centre, The Odysseia Stables, which provides excellent riding facilities, good horses and lessons for all levels.
