Standing erect on a rocky peak- the Chateau de Rochegude dominates the Cotes du Rhone vineyard- rivaling only mont ventoux in majesty. Welcome to an unspoilt corner of Provencal Drome- the kingdom of truffles and black olives. The Chateau and its elegant stature have resisted the Mistral wind since the Middle Ages- as the 12th century keep demonstrates. The interiors are like an unusual and elegant journey through time; every room is different- each one wrapping you in soothing colors and materials. The cellars are amongst the best in Cote du Rhone and are a starting point for tasting sessions in the surrounding vineyards. Other choice outings include a visit to the Ardcche caves or to Roman remains such as those in Vaison-la-Romaine- the Pont du Gard- the antique theatre in Orange On your return- enjoy a snack of warmed- crunchy truffles- steamed in butter- accompanied by eggs and slices of toast Happiness is a rare commodity- but sometimes it can be so very simple.
