The Hotel Castillo de Valdes Salas is a section of the castle complex that has been renovated for use as a small hotel. The hotel is located in the market town of Salas, on the Autovia A-63 motorway that connects Oviedo with Canero on the Atlantic coast. A bridge links the Hotel Castillo de Valdes Salas with the rest of the Castillo de Salas (Salas Castle), a large stone tower with 4 floors. In the cellar are the dungeons, and the tower also houses a small museum of Pre-Romanesque art (Museo Prerromanico de San Martin de Salas). Salas is approx. 10.2 km/6.3 miles from the Benedictine monastery of San Salvador (Monasterio de San Salvador) in Cornellana, established in 1024; 41.8 km/26.0 miles from the provincial capital of Oviedo; and 44.2 km/27.5 miles from the port city of Aviles.
