The hotel, designed based on an ancient Dutch fort by the famous Geoffrey Bawa, is situated at the point where the Bentota River flows into the Indian Ocean. Expect to be lulled by the sounds of ocean waves and the water lapping against the river banks. The hotel, through its specialized sports center (Club Inter Sport) offers an array of motorized water-sports that get the adrenaline pumping. Popular excursions from the hotel include taking a boat ride along the Bentota River to the surrounding mangroves, visiting the turtle hatcheries in Kosgoda, or taking an hour's drive to explore the Dutch Fort in Galle. For the laid-back there is an Ayurvedic spa with an expertise in pampering. The swimming pool at the hotel is unique, with crevices of natural rock peeking in on the floor of the pool. The water sport center at Bentota Beach Hotel offers a variety of ways to explore the ocean and the river surrounding the hotel; such as wind surfing, jet skiing, banana boat riding and diving. For the guest who prefers land sports Bentota Beach Hotel has flood lit tennis courts, squash courts, table tennis, gymnasium, billiards, darts and archery to keep you occupied. A kiddies play area is also available at the hotel to keep the younger guests entertained. The newest Azmaara Spa at the Bentota Beach Hotel offers a tranquility that glides with the waves and ripples with the lake. Situated in between the Bentota beach and the Bentota Lake, the Azmaara Spa is the ideal withdrawal after a day of adventure with sun, sand and sea. The hotel also offers barbecue area, billiards, children's facilities, lobby, reception and squash court.
