This historic city hotel traces the history of Johannesburg from 1886 to 2006. Each decade has been interpreted by the individual designers to illustrate the most prominent features of the particular decade in Johannesburg's history. In addition to a lobby area with a 24-hour check-in service, facilities available to guests at this air-conditioned establishment include lift access, a bar, pub, theatre and a restaurant, as well as conference facilities and a laundry service. Guests arriving by car may leave their vehicles in the hotel garage. The hotel is part of the second development in the Maboneng Precinct, which means ?Place of Light'. The development of this precinct forms part of a city improvement initiative by the development company, Propertuity. The urban regeneration has been applauded by the City of Johannesburg, and, as such, further developments are underway in the precinct, forming part of a vision to breathe new life into the old industrial area in the Eastern Central Business District. The hotel is comprised of single, double and luxury suites. The hotel studios are perfect for the business traveller, as well as for couples on weekend getaways. The range of differently designed rooms allow for guests to choose a room based on the purpose of their city visit. For those looking for a simple overnight stay in the city, the standard apartment suites offer just this. In addition to a private bathroom with a shower and hairdryer, in-room amenities include a direct dial telephone, satellite/cable TV, Internet access and a kitchenette with a microwave and tea and coffee making facilities. A king-size bed is a further standard feature of all accommodation units. The Bioscope Independent Cinema is located on the ground floor of the Main Street Life Building. It is the only independent Art House and Cultural cinema in Johannesburg. Open almost every night of the week, the cinema screens films from around the world and hosts special events and themed evenings. There is a newly opened restaurant situated at Arts on Main that serves fresh, organic, light meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
