Sperlonga is a renowned tourist resort that overlooks the Tyrrhenian sea in one of the most scenic stretches of the Ulysses?s Riviera, namely the territory that extends from the Circeo promontory to Gaeta. The historical centre, which opens onto the sea and splits this wonderful coastal region into the eastwards and westwards sections, appears as a fascinating tangle of houses crossed by long stairways, flights of small arches in between narrow alleys, and enchanting panoramic view of the sky and the sea. The other section of the beach, eastward-bound and full of atmosphere, hosts the archaeological site connected with the remains of the Roman site known as Emperor Tiberius? Villa and nearby homonym grotto (whose finds are displayed in the adjacent National Archaeological Museum).This section also includes the Blue Oasis of Tiberius? Villa .Another point of attraction of Sperlonga is represented by the two lakes, the Lungo Lake and the San Puoto Lake, where is possible to practice water-skiing. From 1998 and every year the sea of Sperlonga has been given the award of the ?European Blue Flag?, a recognition enhanced by a second one, the title of ?The Most Beautiful Suburb of Italy?.
